Walasse Ting was born in China in 1929. Ting ever enrolled Shanghai Fine Arts School. In 1946 to 1952 He moved to Hong Kong and Paris. In 1960, he immigrated to New York over then a decade. He experienced the most exciting periods of modem American art history, including the rise of abstract expressionism and pop art. While immersing himself in the New York art scene, Ting befriended Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann, and Roy Lichtenstein. Therefore, his art influenced by the western art. Then he gradually developed a new personal art style and He also became involved with Pop artists.
Ting published a book of his poems entitled One Cent Life illustrated with original lithographs by numerous American and European artists. He became American citizen in 1974. In 1977, he was awarded a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation and published Red Mouth, a book of erotic drawings and paintings. Since 2001, he has resided in Amsterdam. The use of colour was unique. His paintings have also been collected by many museums, including: Metropolitan Museum in New York, MoMA and Guggenheim Museum of Arts.
